The tip up flag is connected directly to the spool. As the fish runs and the spool spins, so does the flag!

The flag stands 21.5" tall so that it can be seen in deep snow. The spinning fish flag stands 12" tall off the ice.
The faster the fish runs, the faster the flag spins! Seeing the fish run from above the ice adds to the excitement and provides more information to the angler as they approach the hole.
